Nepal

We were all deeply impacted by the huge earthquake the shook Nepal this April, and even more so here at Urban Wellness because our own Alexis Coffey was there volunteering at a clinic practicing herbal medicine during the quake. Alexis received tremendous care and support through local organizations while she was there. Her own words are included below describing her experience and how we can still genuinely help out the people of Nepal.

I was in Nepal during the earthquake. I traveled there to volunteer at a mixed practice community clinic, where I practiced herbal medicine. The Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund organization was started by the rinpoche (an term of honor used in the Tibetan language) that founded the clinic I was working at, and its affiliated monastery. They are doing great work! Many of the monks and community members that helped us during the crisis (by providing us with shelter, water, food, and emotional support) are working for the organization to offer aid and now rebuilding efforts, including Alba the clinic director that took such good care of us during our stay. For many reasons, it is a special cause for me, and I hope that CGLF is able to continue the work they are doing with your support.

It has been over two months since the first of two earthquakes struck Nepal on April 25th, 2015. Within this time, much has changed in the lives of the Nepali people – many lost loved ones, homes, heritage sites, and more. Today, communities continue to cope with the devastation and trauma caused by the disaster. Aid is still needed.

Many remote villages were still waiting to receive support over one month after the shake. Where aid has been received, and where the ground is feeling more and more stable as time passes, families need to move forward; to rebuild their homes and find more permanent shelter. The summer is monsoon season in Nepal, a secondary threat following the earthquake. International help is still needed and is increasingly important.

Please consider a donation to the local Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund, founded by Chokgyur Lingpa Foundation.
