A Workshop on Beyond Self-Care: Recognize and Metabolize Oppression in the Body

Oppression can be felt, held and metabolized within our bodies. It may show up as a lack of energy, knots in our stomach, muscle tension, hopelessness, depression or anxiety. As many of us begin to feel stress and anxiety over the business of the holiday season, it’s important to take the time to learn practical tools to regulate your nervous system and begin to recognize and metabolize the impacts of oppression to lead a happier, more balanced life.

What is Somatic Experience?

A healing tool that provides a framework to assess where a person who has experienced trauma or oppression is “stuck” in the fight, flight or freeze responses. Somatic experience offers clinical tools to help resolve these fixated psychological states within professions such as mental health, occupational therapies, bodywork, addiction treatment, medicine and education.

Prapti Giri and Aisha Tambo are two of our new practitioners here at Urban Wellness who will be leading the small group experiential workshop, Beyond Self-Care: Recognize and Metabolize Oppression in the Body where you can:

  • Learn more about Somatic Experiencing principles in responding to stressful circumstances.
  • Learn what fight, flight and freeze means to you.
  • Learn how oppression gets held in the body and what you can do to release it.
