Stinging Nettle – a Springtime Friend

When it’s cold and rainy outside and you’re wishing Spring would make its grand entrance, reach for a warm cup of nettle leaf tea and trust that Spring is on its way and you’ll be ready for it!

I love using Nettle leaf in practice as a spring tonic rich in vitamins and minerals but its effect on common springtime allergies is a Springtime gift.  Nettle leaf tea can work as both treatment and prevention of allergic rhinitis: like nature’s antihistamine, it helps to resolve a stuffy or runny nose as well as the red, itchy, watery eyes that so often go hand-in-hand.  I enjoy it most as a tea, on its own or in combination with other tasty herbs.  It can be served warm or in a pitcher with lemon and ice as a refreshing caffeine-free iced tea.

Drinking 1-3 cups a day can be enough to keep allergy symptoms at bay but if you want to experience more potent benefit, steep it for longer and receive more of the medicinal goodness.  By doing so, you’ll easily masquerade as Hermione Granger whipping up your own witch’s brew – try it!  It gets so green, it’s almost black!  Surely, just the look of it will ward off the pestilence and vexation of springtime allergies so you can enjoy the new found sunshine outdoors symptom-free.
